      CONSUMER ALERT

Recovering Unclaimed Property held by the State Treasurer's Office is FREE!

The Connecticut State Treasurer's Office is issuing a consumer alert to remind the public that using a consulting service is not required in order to collect unclaimed property. The State Treasurer's Office says that anyone may claim their property in two ways - free of charge:

  1. Visit the Treasury’s official website, www.CTBigList. Enter your name, download a claim form and follow the instructions; OR
  2. Call 1-800-833-7318, weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Outside consultants, often called “finders,” have contacted Connecticut residents and offered to search for their names. Connecticut law permits finders to charge as much as 10% of the value of any property found. While owners of unclaimed property or their heirs may choose to use a finder service, the Treasurer's Office wants to remind the public that the State charges no fee to claim property that may already belong to them.
