Recovering Unclaimed Property held by the State Treasurer's Office is FREE! |

The Connecticut State Treasurer's Office is issuing a consumer alert to remind the public that using a consulting service is not required in order to collect unclaimed property. The State Treasurer's Office says that anyone may claim their property in two ways - free of charge:
Outside consultants, often called “finders,” have contacted Connecticut residents and offered to search for their names. Connecticut law permits finders to charge as much as 10% of the value of any property found. While owners of unclaimed property or their heirs may choose to use a finder service, the Treasurer's Office wants to remind the public that the State charges no fee to claim property that may already belong to them. |
